Father's Day in Jewell County

Wednesday, June 22, 2016
I always enjoy going back home even when it’s a quick weekend visit, and I feel very fortunate that I live close enough that weekend visits are feasible. I drove to Mankato last Saturday to celebrate Father’s Day with my dad and grandpa. I was hoping to catch the start of wheat harvest but the wheat wasn’t quite ready – although that did mean I was able to spend more time with my dad!

Saturday afternoon we drove through the farm on our way to dinner at Lovewell Marina. I enjoyed seeing the golden wheat fields and captured this photo. I love the colors – the blue sky, golden wheat, and white rock road. Oh, and did you notice no power lines? How cool is that?

Love this gorgeous Kansas view!

We walked around the farmhouse which brought back so many wonderful memories of playing in Grandpa and Grandma’s yard. My dad and I admired this swing that’s been there so long the chain has grown into the tree!

Dinner at Lovewell Marina is always so much fun. It’s great to sit outside, watch the boats, and catch up with the locals. I always run into a bunch of people I know at the marina which makes it feel even more like home. I’ve been to a lot of lakes in my recent tenure as a boat owner, and Lovewell definitely has the best marina restaurant. Great homemade pizzas, flat breads, pulled pork sandwiches, and salads. If you’re in North Central Kansas anytime soon, go check it out!

Coors Light is a must at the lake.

On Sunday morning we went to Superior to enjoy a Father’s Day breakfast with Grandpa and Grandma. My mother made our favorite Good Morning Casserole, and we sat around and enjoyed visiting over coffee.

Grandpa got a kick out of my dad's new instant camera.
Why did Polaroid's ever go away in the first place?

It may have been a short visit, but it was wonderful time spent with people I love.
